the consent of the other parent is required to take the child abroad or to move them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the case of sole custody, the legal situation is different, but international complications can still arise, for example, when contact arrangements need to be adjusted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An international relocation often has consequences for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the division of care<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>choice of school<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>contact moments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>travel distances and costs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, relocation is subject to careful legal scrutiny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Consent form and the Marechaussee<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For temporary travel abroad, written consent from the other parent is often sufficient in practice. The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee checks at border crossings whether a child is traveling with the consent of both parents with parental authority. This does not mean that other interests do not play a role, but they are always assessed in conjunction with one another. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"s-content-block\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"International_jurisdiction_in_relocation\"><\/span>International jurisdiction in relocation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When moving abroad, the question may arise as to which court has jurisdiction to decide on the request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In many cases, the court of the country where the child has their habitual residence has jurisdiction.
