In many cases, you must make your own arrangements regarding the home, assets, and children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_does_%E2%80%98separating_mean_from_a_legal_perspective\"><\/span><strong>What does &#8216;separating&#8217; mean from a legal perspective?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Separating\u2019 means that partners end their relationship without being married or in a registered partnership. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For unmarried cohabitants, there is no statutory community of property. Everything you own or share together reverts to <strong>property law<\/strong> or <strong>agreements in a cohabitation contract<\/strong>.<br\/>There is also no statutory division of pension.
