In brief
Discover the convenience of our free online calculation tool. This handy calculator asks you several questions about your family situation and the income of both yourself and your (ex-)partner. After completing these questions, you will receive an estimate of the child support amount to be paid both on our website and via email.
For more complex situations where a more detailed calculation is required, our calculator offers a first step. In the following situations, we recommend a personal calculation:
- Starting legal proceedings
- Official proposal to your ex-partner
- Filing an application with the LBIO
In a personal consultation, we can provide you with an accurate and detailed calculation using official calculators that are also used by the court. The calculation is then fully tailored to your specific situation and specific exceptions.
What you can do with this outcome
The calculation gives you an initial indication based on the data entered. In practice, additional factors often play a role in child support that an online tool cannot include, such as:
- fluctuating or irregular income
- corporate structures or Director-Major Shareholder (DGA) situations
- special costs such as childcare, school fees, or medical expenses
- international situations involving multiple legal systems
- an ongoing conflict regarding the distribution of care
Would you like to know what the outcome means for your specific situation? In a consultation, we look at the full context and discuss which contribution is reasonable and legally substantiated in your case.
Calculate child support
An indicative calculation is a first step. For the legal context and next steps, you can read more on the child support page or discuss your situation with a divorce lawyer.
Online calculator
With the online calculator from Simmelink Lawyers, you get an initial indication of the potential child support. The calculator asks you several questions about your family situation and the incomes of both parents. After completion, you will receive the outcome on the page and by email.
In the following situations, we recommend a personal calculation:
- when starting legal proceedings
- when making a formal proposal to the other parent
- when applying to the LBIO (Landelijk Bureau Inning Onderhoudsbijdragen)
- in a situation that is more complex than an online tool can process
Personal alimony calculation
For situations where a more accurate calculation is needed, we provide a personal maintenance calculation based on the official calculation methods also used by the court.
The personal calculation begins with an intake interview in which your situation is fully mapped out. We look at income, fixed costs, care distribution, and any special circumstances. You can use the outcome when drafting a parenting plan, in a request to the court, or in a proposal to amend the maintenance.
Explanation of the online tool
NIBUD: the cost of children
When calculating child support, basic data from the National Institute for Family Finance Information (NIBUD) is used. Based on figures from Statistics Netherlands (CBS), NIBUD has calculated the average cost of a child. This depends, among other things, on the net family income and the age of the children.
Trema standards: the calculation method for maintenance
The calculation method for child support is established in the maintenance standards also used by the courts. These standards — also known as the Trema standards — take into account the needs of the child, the financial capacity of both parents, and the distribution of care tasks. The standards are periodically reviewed.
In many cases, a calculation based on these standards provides a reliable indication. Depending on the circumstances, additional factors may play a role that an online tool cannot process. This is general information and does not constitute individual legal advice.
Do you have questions about the outcome?
Have you completed the calculation and want to know what this means for your situation? Or are there circumstances involved that the calculator did not take into account? In a consultation, we will discuss the outcome and look at the next step together.

Frequently Asked Questions
A divorce lawyer guides you through the legal settlement of a divorce: the petition, arrangements regarding children, alimony, and assets, and, if necessary, representation during a hearing.
In many cases, strategic advice is also provided: which topics are suitable for consultation, and where a court ruling is required.
In the Netherlands, a lawyer is mandatory for a divorce through the court. A lawyer is only unnecessary for a simple dissolution of a registered partnership via the municipality. This is general information; every situation requires its own assessment.
Costs depend on the complexity of the case and the time required. Factors that play a role include the presence of children, the size of the assets, and the degree of agreement. Depending on the circumstances, costs can vary significantly. A preliminary estimate can be provided during a consultation.
The turnaround time varies greatly per situation. An uncontested divorce where parties agree on the terms can be completed within a few months.
When parties disagree on children, alimony, or assets, a longer turnaround time is realistic, depending on the complexity and the court’s schedule.
Not always. In many cases, parties can reach agreements through consultation or mediation, which are then ratified by the court.
Only when parties cannot agree on essential points, or when required by law, is court intervention mandatory for the official dissolution. Your lawyer will discuss which route suits your situation.
A divorce lawyer represents one party and looks after their legal interests.
A mediator guides both parties jointly in reaching agreements, without taking sides.
Both forms are not mutually exclusive; it is possible to have your own lawyer alongside a mediation process to oversee and legally review the draft agreements.
Yes, you can. We offer both personal appointments and online consultations, with the same care and confidentiality.

Consultation or intake?
Many clients start with a consultation—an exploratory discussion about their legal position, the possible routes, and what they can expect. This is not an obligation to start a procedure.
Are you further along in your decision-making and do you want direct legal guidance? Then an intake is the next step.
